On a Walk in Queensbury
As suggested by the title, I took a photo while I was on a walk in Queensbury (west Yorkshire). I didn't mean to capture this man in the image, but he rounded the corner as I was taking a picture of a lamp post that I liked. It was a little moment of serendipity, because he made it a much nicer photo that then sparked the desire to paint.

I see this man on my walks fairly often, and we nod and say hello each time we cross paths, sometimes twice on a walk. But I'm a little too embarassed to stop him and tell him that I've done a painting of him.
If I'm at my most open to interpreting, both thes tory and the painting show me that it's worth focusing on the things that interest you. That paying attention to - in this case - a lamp post for less than 30 seconds can lead you to an unexpected conclusion that you think about for hours afterwards. And that these moments and realisations don't always come from the things that you are focused on, so it's good to let your attention wander, from time to time.
